As we know, achieving a more peaceful world is a shared responsibility and it is only through our collective efforts, actions large and small, that we will persevere in creating a safer, more just world for all people.

Royal Commission: Address to Judicial College of Victoria
The Hon. Justice Peter McClellan AM, Chair of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, gave an address today to the Judicial College of Victoria on August 19th. The address is titled “Meeting and managing community expectations”, and is being given as part of the Judicial College of Victoria’s Historical Sexual Offences program.
ACT parliament passes religious vilification laws
Vilification on the grounds of religion is now illegal and in serious cases could result in a criminal conviction with a fine of up to $7500, under laws passed by the ACT parliament on Thursday.
‘Spiritual but not religious’: What the census won’t say about Australians’ beliefs
Over the last few decades, the number of people who answer the census question about religion with ‘no religion’ or ‘not specified’ has been on the rise. But just because someone doesn’t subscribe to organised religion doesn’t mean they’re not spiritual. Unlike in France and the United States, the Australian census contains a question about religion. This year, for the first time, ‘no religion’ will be the first option.

The gathering for Religions for Peace for this month will be held on Wednesday evening 10 August from 6.00-7.00pm at the Brahma Kumaris Centre, 51 Risdon Rd., New Town. We’ll share a skype call with Thea Ormerod, the Chair of Australian Religious Response to Climate Change, who is hoping to discuss her proposed visit to Hobart on Saturday 19 November to conduct a workshop for interested participants. This will be an opportunity not only to discuss Thea’s proposed visit but the content of her workshop as well.
