Thousands of Hindus have travelled from across Australia and Asia to attend a traditional ceremony in NSW.

The celebrations were held to mark renovation work at Helensburgh’s Sri Venkateswara temple.

Improvements to the temple are made once every 12 to 20 years, and are completed by specialist workers from India.

Giant cross erected in the Australian outback

Giant cross erected in the Australian outbackA 20 metre cross, which took more than a decade to build, has been unveiled in a remote part of Central Australia. It’s located in Ikuntji, more than 230 kilometres west of Alice Springs. Landscape photographer Ken Duncan has led the project, raising several million dollars through private donations. Community members hope the site will be a meeting place for locals and create economic opportunities through tourism.

Last Sunday 3 April was Palm Sunday, the Christian festival that begins Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday. Palm Sunday remembers Christ’s entry to Jerusalem before the crucifixion and has traditionally been dedicated to seeking justice for Asylum Seekers and Refugees. Police were called to remove a group of people peacefully praying in the lobby of the National Australia Bank’s headquarters in Sydney on Wednesday morning.

People from Muslim, Christian and Buddhist faiths prayed and meditated for an hour calling on the bank stop funding fossil fuel projects, starting by ruling out any further funding of Whitehaven Coal’s climate-wrecking coal expansion plans.

Prayer and Meditation Service For PeaceThe Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC), Multifaith Advisory Group (MAG) and leaders of Melbourne’s Sikh and Hindu communities have organised a meditation and prayer service at Federation Square from 6-7pm on Monday, 20 March. The service, which will be held in the name of peace, unity and social cohesion, is a direct response to recent conversations between the VMC, MAG and faith leaders following incidents of vandalism at places of worship.
