The National Council of Jewish Women of Australia will conduct a Women’s Interfaith Model Passover Seder at the Eva Besen Centre, Caulfield North on Wednesday, 21 March. This is a women-only event, an interfaith event and has been a fully booked out program when it has been provided in the past.

2018 Walk for Justice for Refugees
The 2018 Walk For Justice For Refugees will take place in Melbourne on Sunday 25 March at 2pm, at the State Library (music from 1.30pm). The Walk will proceed through the Bourke Street mall and return to the State Library. People from all faith groups, community organisations and unions will join the 2018 Palm Sunday Walk for Justice for Refugees, bringing banners and other messages of support in solidarity with refugees and people seeking asylum. NSW: South Sudanese Burial Rites
According to the latest census count, just over 5,000 people in Greater Western Sydney reported having a Sudanese ancestry. Over 90% of them came to Sydney from South Sudan. The Community of South Sudan and Other Marginalised Areas Association (CSSOMA) is the peak body in NSW representing the South Sudanese community. CSSOMA provides South Sudanese with culturally appropriate support Services and advocates on their behalf. Here, we learn about the importance of proper burial rites for the South Sudanese, primarily of the Dinka religion.

UN World Interfaith Harmony Week occurs this week. We hope that you can come and celebrate it with us!
As part of honouring the week, Religions for Peace Tas and the Multicultural Council of Tasmania have combined resources to bring a young couple from Melbourne to share their experience and their expertise with us. Nivy Balachandran, Regional Coordinator of United Religions Initiative and Executive Member of Religions for Peace Australia, is a recognised young leader of interfaith and intercultural affairs and works in the area of conflict transformation and cross cultural communication. She will be joined by her husband, Tal Meretz. Nivy belongs to the Hindu faith and her husband is from the Jewish faith tradition.

On 22 November 2017, the Prime Minister, the Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, announced the appointment of an Expert Panel to examine whether Australian law adequately protects the human right to freedom of religion. The Chair of this Expert Panel is former Attorney General, the Hon Philip Ruddock.
