The Queensland Intercultural Society and the Centre for Interfaith & Cultural Dialogue, Griffith University presents a panel on Religion, State & Society: Perspectives from the East and West at Griffith University’s Nathan Campus on the evening of Wednesday, 7th March 2018. Speakers at this event will be Professor Ihsan Yilmaz of Deakin University; Brian J. Adams of Griffith University’s Centre for Interfaith & Cultural Dialogue; Professor Paul Weller of the University of Derby and the Moderator will be The Honourable John Mickel MP, The Former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland.
Professor Ihsan Yilmaz is Research Chair of Islamic Studies and Intercultural Dialogue at Deakin University, Australia. Brian Adams is Director, Centre for Interfaith & Cultural Dialogue, Griffith University. As a former Rotary Peace Fellow, Brian is primarily focused on promoting respect and understanding across cultural, religious and organisational boundaries.
Professor Paul Weller is Emeritus Professor, Centre for Social, Cultural and Legal Research, University of Derby; Professor, Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations, Coventry University; Research Fellow in Religion and Society, Regent’s Park College, University of Oxford.
The moderator for this evening is Labor Party politician John Mickel who served as minister for seven portfolios in five years (2004-09) under Premiers Beattie and Bligh, before his appointment to the role of Speaker (2009-12).
