Greetings of peace! During April we will combine with two events, one, the Walk for Friendship to be held on the 5 April leaving at 1.45pm from the Hobart Mosque, 166 Warwick St Hobart (more details are below) and the other, join the Palm Sunday Walk for Justice for Refugees, together with fellow Australians in other cities and towns. The gathering will be held on Parliament House lawns from 2.00-4.00pm on Sunday 14 April 2019.

The Domestic Experience of Freedom of Religion or Belief
On Tuesday, 29 November 2016 the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon Julie Bishop MP, asked the House of Representatives Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade to inquire into and report on The status of the human right to freedom of religion or belief. That Committee has a Human Rights Sub-Committee which conducted the inquiry.
An interim report of the committee was issued in November, 2017. On Wednesday, 3 April 2019, the Sub-Committee tabled its second interim report for the Inquiry into the status of the human right to freedom of religion or belief. In this article, we select excerpts of the domestic experience of freedom of religion or belief as expressed by various religious communities in the report.

The latest census shows Tasmania’s Muslim population has significantly increased — 46 per cent between 2011 and 2016. Hobart has only one Mosque and worshippers are spilling out into the car park to pray on Fridays.

Queensland: Buddhist Chaplaincy Course
This course is for anyone who performs helping work – as a volunteer – inside Buddhist communities or in the Australian or international community. This helping work may involve: caring for children and families; supporting people who are facing life difficulties (relationship problems, unemployment, bereavement etc.); teaching Buddhism to school children; caring for the sick, elderly and dying; providing pastoral care in universities, hospitals, hospices and prisons; teaching basic meditation skills and running meditation practice groups (for example in hospitals and workplaces); supporting community members in times of conflict or natural disaster.
Parliament House Canberra: The Human Face of Climate Change
Diverse faith and community leaders, climate scientists and doctors joined forces in the heart of Parliament House to provide an urgent climate briefing to politicians.
‘The Human Face of Climate Change’ event, organised by the Multifaith Association of SA and co-sponsored by the nonpartisan Parliamentary Friends of Multiculturalism and Religions for Peace Australia, was held on the last sitting day before global UN climate talks begin today at COP24 in Katowice, Poland.
Victoria: ARRCC Hold Funeral For Coal
Faith leaders have conducted interfaith ‘Funeral for Coal’ Vigils outside the offices of Opposition Leader, Bill Shorten, and Shadow Environment Minister Tony Burke. The leaders argue that the world cannot afford new coal mines, due to the contribution to climate change that this would involve. The Vigils were organised by the multi-faith grassroots organisation, the Australian Religious Response to Climate Change (ARRCC).
Queensland Workshop on Beyond Christchurch
On the 27th of March, members of the Brisbane Muslim Community attended a workshop outlining the response of the Queensland Muslim community to the Christchurch massacre that killed 50 people.
