Federation Square will burst into life with the 23rd annual Buddha’s Day and Multicultural Festival, including over 40 events, an Asian vegetarian food fair, spectacular cultural performances and a thrilling new dragon boat sprint race along the Yarra River.

Vesak is a major Buddhist festival and is a holiday observed traditionally by Buddhists on different days around the world to celebrate the birth of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Melbourne will hold a Multicultural Festival of celebrations on Saturday 20 & Sunday 21 May at Federation Square.

Vesak is when Buddhists come together and recollect the Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and passing. Vesak is an international celebration and listed among UN Observances. There will be a celebration of Vesak in Sakyamuni Buddhist Centre, Lyneham, ACT, on Sunday 7 May 2016.
