NSW: Indigenous Elder to speak on the VOICE

Aunty Norma IngramMs. Norma Ingram, Wiradjuri woman from Corowa, NSW will join the June meeting of the NSW Branch of Religions for Peace Australia and give one talk on the topic of the Voice to Parliament. Norma Ingram is the first Aboriginal person to graduate from Harvard University attaining a Master’s Degree in Education. The meet will take place at teh Vedanta Hall, Liverpool Road, Croydon, from 10:00 am on Monday June 26.

Religions for Peace Australia will conduct the 2023 Annual General Meeting in Canberra on 18 June 2023. The Guest Speaker is Prof Nicole Asquith of UTAS, Professor of Policing and Emergency Management, who is the Convenor of the Australian Hate Crime Network. She will be speaking about her extensive work supporting vulnerable people who face hate speech and targeted violence in our society.

ANZAC Day: Honoring Sacrifice for Justice and Embracing the Message of Peace

It was to commemorate (honour) the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. Now though, it celebrates all “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.” Anzac Day is also observed in the Cook Islands, Niue, Pitcairn, and Tonga.

Father Bob Maguire, charity campaigner and Catholic priest, dies aged 88

Social justice campaigner and “people’s priest” Father Bob Maguire has died aged 88.

The media personality and Roman Catholic priest dedicated his life to standing up for the poor and marginalised and clashed with church hierarchy over his forced retirement.

The Father Bob Maguire Foundation confirmed he died on Wednesday morning at Cabrini Hospital in Melbourne.
