At the moment we are celebrating UN World Interfaith Harmony Week, at a time when we are facing many challenges to the Interfaith movement.  As you will see from the items in this newsletter, however, there is great enthusiasm to meet those challenges. Our gathering for February will be in collaboration with the Multicultural Council of Tasmania on the evening of 23 February 2017.

Royal Commission to hold final hearing into Australian Catholic Church



The Royal Commission will hold a public hearing to inquire into the current policies and procedures of Catholic Church authorities in Australia in relation to child-protection and child-safety standards, including responding to allegations of child sexual abuse. The public hearing will commence on 6 February 2017 at the Royal Commission’s hearing rooms in Sydney.

NSW: National interfaith forum on Religious values and the value of religion



APRO (Australian Partnership of Religious Organisations), the NSW Branch of Religions for Peace Australia, the Australian Multicultural Foundation along with the Organ and Tissue Authority of Australia bring a national interfaith forum on Religious Values and the values of religion.
While religion still plays an important role in many individual lives, its role at the level of the community and institutions is contested. Some question both the value of religion, and the place of religious values in our society. This roundtable seminar will examine the role of religion – and its contributions to Australian society and culture – this day, this age.
