Living Life based on Discernment

Silver Wattle Retreat Centre

There is one testimony from which all others spring forth: the testimony of living in and from the power of the Living Spirit, day-to-day, moment to moment. This is the theme of a discernment workshop at Silver Wattle Retreat Centre.

There is one testimony from which all others spring forth: the testimony of living in and from the power of the Living Spirit, day-to-day, moment to moment. This is the theme of a discernment workshop at Silver Wattle Retreat Centre.

The Discernment Workshop explores how individuals in community make positive choices based on our best discernment of what “rings true” and how to support one another in seeking direction, and living by those choices.

Discernment harnesses the collective wisdom of everyone. Human conscience is every persons’ inward knowledge of right and wrong and compulsion to do what is right. Human conscience, inward knowledge of right and wrong, does not spring forth fully formed – it grows as one pays attention to it.

The workshop will be led by Nadine Hoover and John Michaelis at the Silver Wattle Retreat Centre.

N

adine Hoover coordinates Friends Peace Peace Teams in Asia Pacific with John Michaelis, conducts training in nonviolence, trauma healing and conscience in Indonesia with people from all sides of conflict. Her grows out of people-to-people relationships and peaceful principles. She has made a voluntary commitment to simplicity and her clinical practice in Alfred NY, for chronic pain relief, supports her full-time ministry of grassroots peace work wherever she is.

John Michaelis is an IT communications specialist and learned his approach to daily discernment, while co-facilitating with Nadine Hoover, a series of AVP workshops in East Aceh, Indonesia, last year. He is convenor of the International Coordinating Committee of the Alternatives to Violence project (AVP).
