The Beauty of Jesus Christ: Filling out a Scheme of St Augustine (Oxford University Press, April 2020) by Professor Gerald O’Collins SJ.
At the end of April, Oxford University Press (Oxford, UK) published The Beauty of Jesus Christ, Gerry O’Collins’ seventeenth book with that publishing house and the 75th book which he has authored or co-authored with a variety of publishers in different countries.
A wonderful paragraph by St Augustine of Hippo provided a framework for this book. He recognized the beauty of Christ revealed at his birth, in his teaching and miraculous deeds, and at every stage of his story. But Augustine never used his own scheme as a basis for writing a book on Christ and his beauty.
Nearly two thousand years later, this book takes up the challenge of reading the whole story of Christ through the lens of beauty.
More than ever in a year when a pandemic has brought us worldwide suffering and death, the unique beauty of the crucified and risen Christ can enjoy its special place.
