Religions for Peace Victoria Branch has been active and brings our Victorian members up to date with the latest activities and National News.

Executive meetings are now distinguished and separate: Religions for Peace (Victoria Branch) now meets ten times a year, and the National Executive meets 4 – 5 times per year and as required.

We have linked with the Interfaith Centre of Melbourne for a seminar on ‘Boundaries of Belief’ and participated in the Religious Leaders Luncheon at Parliament House for UN World Interfaith Harmony Week, 2014.

Prof Joe Camilleri at RMIT

Religions for Peace Australia (Victoria Branch) and RMIT Chaplaincy presented a public lecture, “Multifaith Australia – Reimagining Our Common Future” in celebration of World Interfaith Harmony Week, on 6 February, 2014. Guest speaker was Emeritus Professor Joe Camilleri of Latrobe University’s Centre for Dialogue. You may watch the video and download the text of Joe Camilleri’s talk here.

We also continue to monitor the Religious Instruction for particular religious communities in public schools as per our annual grant from the Victorian Government. Due the expansion of work in this area, we are in the process of getting Work Cover for our two part time workers.

Asian News (ACRP)

The Asian Conference – Religions for Peace will conduct an Assembly in Seoul (Inchon) during August 25-28 2014. The theme is The Unity and Harmony in Asia. The sub-themes are still being considered. Australia has been allowed 4-5 delegates, with no limit on Observers, up to 10-20 people. Anyone interested should check with the National Chair, Des Cahill. The Registration fee for Observers is $50.
