The Australian Catholic Anti-slavery Network has welcomed the introduction of legislation by Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus to establish an Anti-Slavery Commissioner. The World Council of Churches also supports this appointment.

Modern Slavery: Breaking the Silence
Breaking the Silence is a proposal for whistleblower protections to enable migrant workers to address exploitation. Religions for Peace Australia, in support of the Australian Catholic Anti-slavery Network adds its voice to calls to better protect people on temporary visas who experience exploitation in Australia. These protections would increase the opportunity for international students and the many thousands of temporary workers in Catholic operations and supply chains to seek help without fear of losing their visa.
Catholics and Australia’s Modern Slavery Act
Catholic organisations are required to comply with Australia’s Modern Slavery Act 2018. This means actions must be taken to assess and address modern slavery risks in our supply chains and operations and be published annually on a public register managed by the Commonwealth.
