Victoria: Public Lecture – 50th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate

During 2015, This year the Catholic Church marks the 50th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, a document of the Second Vatican Council which significantly changed and developed the nature of the Catholic Church’s engagement with other religions and particularly with Judaism. The Sisters of Our Lady of Sion will conduct a Public Lecture to be delivered by Dr Didier Pollyfeyt at Box Hill on Wednesday, 22 July 2015.

The importance of addressing 50th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate does not lie in saying new things but in keeping alive, in the younger generations, the memory of what the document signified at the time it was promulgated during Vatican II, all the advances in Christian – Jewish relations since then, and, above all, what it still means for the Church in its openness to dialogue with modernity.

The Sisters of Sion Congregation in Australia have arranged a Public Lecture to mark the 50th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate – the Roman Church document on relations with other religions. The speaker is Dr Didier Pollyfeyt from Leuven, Belgium. His topic: “Fiftieth anniversary of Nostra Aetate: The impact of Catholic Jewish relations on Catholic identity and the challenges for the future.”

Dr Didier Pollyfeyt is currently working with the Catholic Education Office to enhance Catholic Identity. It brings together his love for Jewish Catholic Relations and his work in Catholic Education. We hope this will further stimulate knowledge of the importance of the Church’s relationship with Judaism.
