Victoria: Interfaith Service for Mediterranean Drownings

The Darebin Ethnic Communities Council invites you to an interfaith memorial service to express our solidarity and compassion for our fellow human beings who have drowned on the Meditteranean Sea on Friday 8 May 2015 at St Marys Church, Thornbury.

We are bearing witness to the appalling human tragedy of people fleeing brutal violence of civil war, terrorism and genocidal acts on the African continent and across the Middle East, causing many to try to cross the Mediterranean Sea towards Europe in overloaded boats.

The drowning of hundreds of refugees in recent weeks along the island coastlines of Greece and Italy has been heartbreaking, more so for many within Darebin’s multicultural communities.

The Darebin Ethnic Communities Council invites you to an interfaith memorial service to express our solidarity and compassion for our fellow human beings who have drowned on this perilous journey; and with all those children, women and men who are forced to flee their homes from acts of war, terrorist violence and genocidal acts.
