Victoria: Molly Hadfield Social Justice Oration

March the 8th is a global day of recognition and celebration of women’s social, political, cultural and economic achievements. It is also a day that invites reflection and action to combat gender-based discrimination and violence. The Molly Hadfield Social Justice Oration is a free annual oration delivered by a distinguished female guest speaker.

In May 2013, City of Darebin made a decision to institute the annual Molly Hadfield Social Justice Oration as part of Council’s International Women’s Day celebrations, in tribute to respected and recognised Darebin resident, Molly Hadfield OAM.

Molly Hadfield OAM made an invaluable contribution as an activist on public housing, senior’s rights, women’s rights, public education, community health and peace; all of which were ultimately linked to her core belief and deep commitment to social justice.

This specific International Women’s Day tribute is a way to recognise Molly’s contribution but also a proactive way of  exploring key social justice issues that impact and interest women in our community.

We are happy to announce our speaker for 2015 will be Tasneem Chopra, prominent social commentator, author and human rights advocate.  Attendees will also enjoy music and poetry from local female artists including the Aboriginal Young Women’s Choir –   the Koorie Tiddas and singer, songwriter and poet Ee’da.
