Victoria: One Voice – Tree of Life Project

The One Voice – Tree of Life Project will be conducted by the Ballarat Interfaith Network at Sebastapol on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th November 2014 at the Ballarat South Community Hub – Tuppen Drive, Sebastopol. This is a community weekend event organised by Ballarat Interfaith Network in the interests of MultiFaith and MultiCultural understanding and world peace.

Christmas is a time of celebration, community, and inclusion – but not everyone is included or feels they can be included. The Ballarat Interfaith Network (B.I.N.) thinks it is time for our multicultural, multifaith society to consider an all inclusive community wide end-of-year celebration – an enterprise which could include people of all faiths and those who hold no faith at all.

The Tree of Life is an ancient symbol and metaphor. It is found in many faiths, belief systems, and philosophies. Charles Darwin, in his work on the origin of life, used a form of the Tree of Life.

On Saturday 8 November, the One Voice Fair will be held. The fair will be held at the South Ballarat Community Hub at Tuppen Drive, Sebastopol, Ballarat (behind Phoenix Community College). The event on Sunday 9 November will be a more reflective event on the shore of Lake Wendouree.

At the One Voice Fair, people and organisations will be able, through their own stalls/stands, to promote their own faith/belief systems. There will be multicultural food available – and music.

The theme of One Voice comes from the Wailin’ Jennys song composed by Australian-born Canadian, Ruth Moody. Please note that Ruth Moody has given permission to use her song – but it must not be recorded. To get the flavour of our event, please listen to the song and read the words here. http://goo.gl/XZthKk
