Asian Conference Religions for Peace

The 8th General Assembly of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace is at present meeting at Songdo Convensia, Incheon, Republic of Korea. A number of delegates and observers from Australia are attending the meeting. The Chair, Religions for Peace Australia, Prof. Desmond Cahill is one of the Vice Presidents of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace. Prof. Cahill provides an update.

Yesterday, in the lead-up meetings to the Eighth Asian Assembly of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace, the Executive Committee formally admitted the Myanmar chapter to ACRP membership. The Committee also formally admitted the Malaysian chapter on the proviso that that chapter work with the ACRP moderator, Prof Din Syamsuddin of Indonesia, to ensure that the membership structure was truly reflective of Malaysia’s religious profile.

At the open welcoming dinner, the ACRP secretary-general, Dr Sunggon Kim, announced he would be stepping down from the position after serving two terms from 2002. Professor Syamsuddin thanked Dr Kim for his commitment and dedication to the Asian interfaith agenda. He welcoming everyone to the Assembly whose theme is “Unity and Harmony in Asia”.
