A highlight of the Hindu calendar, the Ganesh Chaturthi event will again be celebrated at the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre (DAEC) and Bundoora Park on Saturday 30 August.

A highlight of the Hindu calendar, the Ganesh Chaturthi event will again be celebrated at the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre (DAEC) and Bundoora Park on Saturday 30 August.

The ceremonies will begin at 10am at DAEC and will be conducted by Hindu Priest Dr Jayant Bapat, with almost 500 people attending to perform darshan (prayers) and Bhajan (sacred music). There will also be activities for children.

Following this ceremony, a procession to East Preston Tram Depot, where a special tram will transport Ganesh and devotees to Bundoora Park for ceremonial immersion in the lake.

Darebin Council is proud to support the Hindu community and we recognise their contribution to the cultural and economic development of our city. The Ganesh Chaturthi has been celebrated in Darebin for ten years now, and it has become a much-loved event for the Hindu community and many other people interested in the Hindu culture.

Council offers an open invitation to everyone wishing to join in this holy occasion on the Hindu calendar.
