ASHER OSTRIN
WORLD EXPERT ON POST-SOVIET JEWISH LIFE

In a career spanning more than 32 years, Asher has overseen the care and wellbeing of millions of Jews struggling to survive in a post-Soviet age. He helped mastermind the resurgence of Jewish life that is thriving today in the region. Under his 20-year leadership of the former Soviet Union division, the Joint established its massive network of Jewish welfare centres and community centres that today sustain Jewish lives and Jewish life across eleven time-zones. This is a unique opportunity to learn how a new generation of post-Soviet Jewry is evolving in one of the most complex, fast-changing, diverse and critical parts of the world.

Asher is visiting Australia as a guest of JDC, the Joint. For more than a 100 years, the Joint has worked on behalf of the worldwide Jewish community to ensure that every Jewish person has access to food, medicine, shelter and community – no matter where in the world he or she may be. This lifesaving work depends purely on the compassion and generosity of donations.
