Australians of many faiths stand in solidarity with Pacific and First Nations people in the struggle for climate justice. Rev. James Bhagwan, General Secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches, will begin our Day of Climate Prayer with a dawn Eucharist service on a sandbar in Fiji. Australian interfaith services will occur in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and several regional towns.

In Adelaide, our shared service will include First Nation and Pacific Island representatives, alongside the many faith communities who have made South Australia their home. Farhan Shah, a Sufi musician, will perform a song and share news of the tragedy unfolding in his country, Pakistan.

Non-Proliferation Treaty on Fossil Fuels

This is the global #Faiths4ClimateJustice theme uniting people of faith in 40+ countries. Please encourage your community networks to sign this faith-inspired letter supporting a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty: https://fossilfueltreaty.org/faith-letter

Senior faith leaders are calling on our Australian Prime Minister to take positive swift action on climate change: to end approvals and public subsidies for new coal and gas projects, to respect First Nation peoples’ rights to protect Country, to assist just transitions to sustainable industries, to restart contributions to the UN’s Green Climate Fund, and to endorse this Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Together we can support commitment to climate action that matches the urgency of our times.

We can also support each other, and the poor and vulnerable of this Earth.
