Victoria: Spring-Time Walk in Friendship: the JCMA Friendship Walk

A Spring-Time Walk in Friendship and Peace Between Our Places of Worship – The Jewish Christian Muslim Association of Australia (JCMA) will be engaging in its JCMA Friendship Walk on Sunday 11 October 2015 from 2:00pm to 4:30pm commencing from St Peters Eastern Hill, 15 Gisborne Street, East Melbourne.

Spring-Time Walk in Friendship and Peace Between Our Places of Worship

“Jewish, Christian and Muslim friends are being asked to symbolise their common yearning for peace by a Spring- time walk between our places of worship”, said Bishop Philip Huggins, the President of the Jewish Christian Muslim Association (JCMA).

“In many of our communities there are strong networks of interfaith friendship,” said Bishop Philip.

“Coming out of winter, spring is a time of new life and renewed warmth. This past year has been full of bleak news. We want to renew our hope with Friendship Walks, conversation and prayer”.

Come along on Sunday 11th October to St Peter’s Eastern Hill (Cnr Albert and Gisborne Streets, Melbourne) at 2.00pm and spend an afternoon with us walking together in friendship and goodwill between a church, synagogue and a mosque. After St Peter’s Church we will walk across the road to the East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation Synagogue and then on to the Albanian Mosque in Carlton North.

We will have a prayer of peace and reflections in each location.

Go to the JCMA website (www.jcma.org.au) or Facebook page or call Ginette Everest on 0400 211 221 for further details.

At JCMA members of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim Abrahamic faiths have been seeking to learn and understand more about each other in interfaith dialogue at forums, conferences, programs and events since 2003.

The JCMA schools program provides teachers and students with an opportunity to challenge some of the typical stereotypes and misunderstandings they may have of people from backgrounds different from themselves. “In our diverse multicultural society good relations based on understanding and respect is essential between people of faith and non faith”, said Ginette Everest, JCMA Executive Officer.
