ANZAC Day is an event shared across many nations: Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, France, Belgium and the United Kingdom. ANZAC Day reminds us of selfless service by those who went to war to defend Australia and Aotearoa – New Zealand and forged an indelible bond of mateship across time and landscape. In this essay, we recall the sacrifice that rendered menaning and purpose in that day, that age. What does this service, this sacrifice render toward social cohesion, harmony and understanding in Australia and New Zealand, today?

NSW: Interfaith Service for Christchurch

Archbishop of Sydney Anthony Fisher OP has called upon people to dedicate themselves to compassion and service rather than ego and ideology at an interfaith service at St Mary’s Cathedral following the terror attack in New Zealand.

The archbishop welcomed Australia’s Grand Mufti Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohammed and Prime Minister Scott Morrison to the remembrance ceremony on 17 March for those who lost their lives and to pray for the injured.

Religions for Peace Australia is a global, community-based organisation working for global peace across the world and for social cohesion in Australia in other countries, and for peace and co-operation between the religions of the world. It works for an understanding of the benefits that religion and religious moderation brings to society, and works against religiously based extremism that is violent.
