Clergy of all faiths urgently needed cultural training to deal with an Australia that had changed beyond recognition since the 1990s, according to one of Australia’s leading religious authorities. Melbourne Anglican priest, UNESCO officer and university academic Gary Bouma told a UN Interfaith Harmony Week lecture at Melbourne University in February that Australia was now “one of the most diverse nations in the world”.

Religions for Peace is the largest international coalition of representatives from the world’s religions dedicated to promoting peace founded in 1970. In Australia, Religions for Peace is established with Branches and affiliates in every state. It is rapidly becoming the peak interfaith organisation of Australia. Membership is open to all persons of goodwill who seek peace around the world and who seek to build cooperation, harmony and understanding between the religions and faith groups in Australia.

Prof. Desmond Cahill, OAM, Chair, Religions for Peace Australia, delivered the Annual Report for 2014-2015 at the recently convened Annual General Meeting in Canberra. Prof. Cahill addresses the local situation, the 8th General Assembly of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace, and provides an overview of Religions for Peace activities in all states during the year.
