Special Religious Instruction Training

Religions for Peace Australia held compulsory training for SRI volunteers on 7, 8, 9 February and 3 March 2015, in accordance with the new requirements of the Department of Education and Training in regard to their accreditation.

Conducted by Prof Des Cahill, Chairperson of Religions for Peace Australia, the training covered the following areas: –

  • Ministerial Direction 141
  • Agreement for the accreditation of SRI trainers and volunteers and accompanying implementation policy, such as those relating to Human Rights and Responsibilities, diversity, supporting sexual diversity in schools, gender identity, duty of care, and policies in regard to volunteers and visitors, excursions and activities and social media.
  • Ethical responsibilities for the duty of care for students and the overall policy of the Victorian education department.

Seventy-four SRI volunteers attended from the Baha’i, Buddhist, Greek Orthodox, Hindu and Sikh communities.
