An interfaith vigil was held for the victims of the Sri Lankan bombings in the Sydney suburb of Blacktown. A candlelit vigil was held in Blacktown to remember the victims of the Sri Lankan terror attacks on Tuesday, 23 April.
The Sri Lankan Reconciliation Forum organised the event to remember the 320 people killed and 500 injured in a series of blasts at church services and luxury hotels in the nation’s capital Colombo on Easter Sunday.
A spokesperson for the forum Shanaz Razeen said Blacktown was an appropriate place to hold the vigil given the areas’s prominent Sri Lankan community.
“It’s to show that we’re thinking of our people back home, the victims. The majority of them were Sri Lankan but there were tourists and foreigners caught up in it as well,” he said.
“We’re standing with the Catholic community and the broader Sri Lankan community, showing solidarity. Being united in times like these is very important.”
