Interfaith leader joins the Queen for lunch

qe2The deputy director of the UK’s Council of Christians and Jews has joined the Queen and Prince Philip for an exclusive lunch at Buckingham Palace. Elizabeth Harris-Sawczenko was one of just eight guests from all walks of life selected by the Royals to join the special event, where she gifted Her Majesty with artwork by Vetta Alexis. It depicts the traditional Jewish prayer recited on meeting a member of the Royal Family.

She described the meeting as “a great honour and blessing”, adding: “As Deputy Director of the Council of Christians and Jews, I was able to discuss issues relating to Christian-Jewish relations and the challenges and opportunities facing faith communities today. The Queen has been the Patron of CCJ since 1952 making us one of the first charities to which Her Majesty ever pledged her Patronage. It is even more special to have met her during her 90th year.”

Other guests were Lorraine Allen (Principal, Whitley Academy), Judith Thompson (Commissioner for Victims and Survivors in Northern Ireland), Prof Richard Davies (VC Swansea University), Edward Hay (Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust), Allister Hood (Show Horse Producer), Air Marshall Philip Osborn (Chief of Defence Intelligence), Roy Rickuss (General Secretary, Community Union).
