Religions for Peace Tasmania Branch has been invited by the Human Rights Week Committee to organise an Interfaith Gathering to celebrate Human Rights Week 2012.

Religions for Peace Tasmania Branch has been invited by the Human Rights Week Committee to organise an Interfaith Gathering to celebrate Human Rights Week 2012.

The gathering has been organised for Sunday December 9 from 4.30-6.00pm at the Friends’ Meeting House, Boa Vista Rd., North Hobart.

The theme is Article 18 of the Universal Charter of Human Rights, which is:

Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change one’s religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest one’s religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.

The topic we have chosen to explore in the gathering in connection with Article 18 is Respect. For everyone to claim this Human Right, firstly we need Self-Respect to follow our own spiritual paths honestly and publicly and secondly we need to give Respect to the right of others to follow theirs.
