The Bahá’i Community invites you to a Special Service at the Sydney Bahá’i House of Worship, 173 Mona Vale Road, Ingleside from 10.00 am to 11.00 am on Sunday 18 June 2023, to commemorate 40 years since the execution of 10 Bahá’i women in Shiraz.
This June marks 40 years since the execution of 10 Bahá’i women in Shiraz. All were executed on one night for their beliefs. One was 17, most were in their 20s. They were hanged one by one, each forced to watch the other women’s deaths in an attempt to coerce them to renounce their faith. None did. Unyielding, they stood firm for their freedom of thought and belief, for justice and equality.
Their tragic story, however, is not over. The story continues to unfold today as women in Iran follow the same path and make the same choice: to champion the principles of justice and equality at any cost, even their lives.
To honour the executed women and the long struggle for equality lived by women of all faiths in Iran, the Baha’i International Community has now launched a global campaign, called #OurStoryIsOne. The campaign aims to demonstrate that despite the Iranian government’s efforts to sow discord and hate between groups, our story is a shared one. The women of Iran have become unified in their suffering and resilience, in their persecution and unwavering strength to combat oppression and above all to rebuild Iran, whatever sacrifices it takes. #ourstoryisone
Join us in honouring not only the anniversary of these 10 women but to use it as an opportunity to honour all women who have contributed to building a better Iran through their suffering, to say that #ourstoryisone and that through our unity, we will combat oppression.
