Churches Together South Australia is coordinating an ecumenical event, for all people across Churches in South Australia and wider communities. It will be a time for learning more, and asking questions or raising concerns, with two key Aboriginal Elders. Two Sessions will be held at West Adelaide Uniting Church on Wednesday, 15 February 2023.

Title of session: The Spirit of God is the Spirit of Truth
Abstract: We seek to explore what it means for the Australian Church to be called by God to be Christ’s Ambassadors for Reconciliation and justice.
Bio: Professor Anne Pattel-Gray Ph.D.; D.D. is the Head of the School of Indigenous Studies at the University of Divinity, Melbourne Australia. Professor Pattel-Gray earned a Ph.D. from the University of Sydney in 1995 in the Studies of Religion with the major focus on Aboriginal Religion and Spirituality, and a Doctor of Divinity form India awarded in 1997. Professor Pattel-Gray has achieved many firsts in her prestigious life, and she is known as a trail blazer, opening many doors for her people. She is a recognized scholar, theologian, activist and prolific writer with several publications. Professor Anne Pattel-Gray is a descendant of the Bidjara/Kari Kari Nations in Queensland and a renowned Aboriginal leader within Australia – nationally and internationally. She has dedicated her life to the struggle of Australia First Nations (AFN) as a strong campaigner, lobbyist towards seeking justice, equity, and equal representation for First Nations people.

Abstract: The Uluru Statement from the Heart and the Referendum on the Voice from an Aboriginal perspective
Bio: The Rev Canon Dr Garry Worete Deverell is a trawloolway man from northern lutruwita/Tasmania and a canon priest of St Paul’s cathedral in Naarm/Melbourne. He has worked in parish, agency and academic ministries for the past twenty-five years and is currently Lecturer and Research Fellow in the School of Indigenous Studies at the University of Divinity. He studied literature, philosophy and education at the University of Tasmania and theology at both the Melbourne College of Divinity and Monash University. He is the author of The Bonds of Freedom: vows, sacraments and the formation of the Christian Self (Paternoster, 2008) and Gondwana Theology: a trawloolway man reflects on Christian Faith (Morningstar, 2018). His current project is a book upon the theological meaning of ‘country’.
