The Hindu Council of Australia would like to thank Australian Federal Parliament and the Governor General for celebrating Hindu Festival of Deepavali. Hindus feel very proud that Hindu festivals have been accepted as important festivals in Australia and Hindus are being treated as important citizens.
Deepavali in Australia has been celebrated by the following in 2022 :
- His Excellency Governor General of Australia (representing King Charles III, King of Australia) – celebrated at Governor General’s official residence in Canberra on 24th October 2022 with Hindu community leaders and Hindu Council of Australia.
- Federal Parliament of Australia – celebrated by the Government of Australia and all political parties with Hindu community leaders and Hindu Council of Australia on 7th November 2022 inside the Parliament House in Canberra
- State Parliament of NSW – celebrated by the state Government, department of Multiculturalism and MPs from various political parties on 20th October 2022.
- The Premier of Victoria celebrated Deepavali Festival with the Hindu Community and Hindu Council of Australia.
- Deepavali was also celebrated by the Government of the Norther Territory along with the Hindu community.
- Adelaide – Government Ministers and MPs from various political parties facilitated, supported and attended Deepavali celebration at Adelaide Showgrounds held by Hindu Council of Australia on 15th October 2022.
- Perth – Government Ministers and MPs from various political parties facilitated, supported and attended Deepavali celebration at Cannington Showgrounds held by Hindu Council of Australia on 6th November 2022.
- Sydney – Government Ministers and MPs from various political parties facilitated, supported and attended Deepavali celebration at Prince Alfred Square Park held by Hindu Council of Australia on 15th and 16th October 2022.
- North Sydney, Sydney and Lane Cove Councils and MPs facilitated, supported and attended Deepavali celebration under the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge opposite Opera House on 29th October 2022.
- Various MPs visited and supported Deepavali celebration by Hindu Council of Australia at Cherrybrook Shopping Centre in Sydney on 23rd October 2022.
- Various MPs visited and supported Deepavali celebration by Hindu Council of Australia at Rouse Hill Town Centre and Shopping Centre in Sydney on 22nd October 2022.
Both sides of main political parties and all other parties have been very supportive of Deepavali celebrations and have invited Hindu Council of Australia from time to time to discuss, understand and solve issues facing Hindus in Australia.
In the past, Hindu prayers have been recited in various Australian Parliaments and Council chambers.
Hindu Council of Australia thanks all elected representatives and governments for looking after Hindus in Australia and making us feel a proud part of Australia.
