For more than a decade, the Scanlon Foundation and the Scanlon Foundation Research Institute has been conducting and leading research on social cohesion in Australia via the Mapping Social Cohesion Research series. The Mapping Social Cohesion Report will be delivered online by the report author, Emeritus Professor Andrew Markus AO of Monash University, on 30 November 2021.
This year, we are launching a new component to the Report series: The National Social Cohesion Index. This addition brings to our understanding an even more comprehensive analysis of objective population data sets that impact social cohesion. This new biannual Index combines attitudinal data gathered through the Mapping Social Cohesion Survey with these objective indicators from the resources of the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Through the support of the Department of Home Affairs we are able to bring more depth and context to the picture of social cohesion in Australia. It is further enhanced by a program of interviews in ten locations across Australia that provide extraordinary insights into individual experiences over the past exceptional year.
The 2021 Mapping Social Cohesion Report Launch will include our annual analysis of the Mapping Social Cohesion Survey. This survey and analysis is the only one of its kind. It has tracked Australian’s attitudes since 2007. This past year has been unprecedented and we all want to know the impact it has had on our communities. The Report provides an incomparable study of the Australian population in 2021 and the ability to compare it to last year and pre-pandemic.
We are delighted to invite you to the 2021 Mapping Social Cohesion Report launch.
This year, we will be hosting the event live on Zoom.
The webinar will feature a presentation launching the National Social Cohesion Index and the results of the Scanlon Monash Index by report author, Emeritus Professor Andrew Markus AO of Monash University, followed by a live Q&A segment.
