Parliament of Religions: Live Streaming available

The 2015 Parliament of the World’s Religions begins on Thursday, October 15th with the full-day Inaugural Women’s Assembly beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Opening Plenary Ceremony and Procession will be held at 6:30 p.m. Pre-registration for live streaming of the Parliament in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, is avaialble.


The Council for a Parliament of World’s Religions will be hosting their 2015 conference, their first meeting in the United States since 1993, in Salt Lake City, Utah. This conference is a world-class event that will host Dr. Jane Goodall, along with many other Nobel Peace Laureates, dignitaries, advisors, notable speakers and activists.

This year’s major speakers include:

    Dr. Jane Goodall, world-renowned primatologist and UN Messenger of Peace

  • Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate and activist in Northern Ireland
  • Dr. Karen Armstrong, British author, commentator and former Roman Catholic nun
  • Dr. Tariq Ramadan, UN advisor and professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University
  • Rabbi David Saperstein, US Ambassador At-Large for International Religious Freedom
  • Chief Arvol Lookinghorse, Sioux chief and spiritual leader
  • Dr. Vandana Shiva, Hindu author and environmental justice activist
  • The Venerable Dharma Master Hsin Tao, prominent Buddhist monk and social activist

There will also be exclusive video messages from Al Gore, Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Jim Yung Kim and the Dalai Lama.

Scope:

The Parliament is estimating that more than 10,000 people, from over 80 countries and 50 different religious and spiritual traditions, will come together to share, learn, network and celebrate.

This year’s Parliament hopes bring global wisdom and practice to three critical issues:

  1. Climate change and care for creation
  2. Income inequality and wasteful consumption
  3. War, violence and hate speech

Background

The Parliament of the World’s Religions, based in Chicago, was founded in 1893 to cultivate harmony among the world’s religious and spiritual communities. Previous parliaments have been hosted in Melbourne, Barcelona, Cape Town and Chicago. Previous keynote speakers have included:

  • Former South African President Nelson Mandela
  • His Holiness the Dalai Lama
  • Former US President Jimmy Carter
  • Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu

The 2015 Parliament begins on Thursday, October 15th with the full-day Inaugural Women’s Assembly beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Opening Plenary Ceremony and Procession will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Daily plenary sessions are open to all attendees and feature keynote addresses climate and environmental issues, war, violence, hate speech and economic inequity. Daily workshops are also scheduled throughout the day. A sacred music concert will be held on Sunday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m. in the Mormon Tabernacle.

The Closing Plenary will be Monday, October 19th at 3:30 p.m. a culmination of the relationships, inspiration, tools and commitments to advance peace, justice and sustainability the interfaith movement fosters around the world.

Where:

The majority of events will take place in the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Concerts and other programs will be held in surrounding venues and locations in the downtown area.

The Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions invites you to join us and 10,000 religious, spiritual, and scholarly leaders from around the world for the 5th Parliament of the World’s Religions being held October 15th-19th in Salt Lake City, Utah!

All Parliament plenaries, opening and closing as well as up to 100 major programs will be streamed live. Global leaders will join these sessions on stage and through exclusive video messages.
