A seminar on Islam and Environmental Stewardship was held on 19 February at Holland Park Mosque. This was an initiative of a small group from the Brisbane Muslim community who felt the need to consider starting a conversation—and potential future action—on the view of our faith on issues of climate change that are impacting our environment and our role as stewards on earth.

North Brisbane Interfaith Group will conduct an Interfaith Competition. Entries close on 31 January 2017. The competition provides several ways in which people who are concerned to promote interreligious harmony and goodwill, can express their ideas about living in a multi faith society and/or promoting interfaith relations.

Queensland: Successful Mosque Open Day held at Toowoomba Mosque
The Garden City Mosque, Toowoomba, Queensland participated in the National Mosque Open Day program on Saturday, 29 October 2016. This was a nationwide event to invite members of the wider community to have a first hand look at the mosques in their neighbourhood and city, and find out more about the activities and rituals performed in the mosques.
Queensland: Interfaith cooperation in action at Mount Isa
A single beige demountable fitted with not much more than an air conditioner, a few chairs, and a patchwork of woven mats turned to face Mecca has become an outback symbol of religious hope. The Good Shepherd Catholic church in the remote Queensland mining town of Mount Isa has offered space in its parish building to the local Islamic community for use as a prayer room.

Queensland: Creators of Peace Circles
Creators of Peace is an international women’s initiative empowering women to be radical peacebuilders. It aims to engage women in their role as creators of peace at every level of society; to pre-empt violence and despair by addressing the roots of conflict in and around us; to encourage and connect existing ‘peace builders’ and to build just, caring and inclusive communities for all. An introduction to Creators of Peace Circles will be offered at Inala Community Hall on Saturday, July 23.

With the month of Ramadan now underway, we asked some of the burning questions you might have about the holy month.
What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the fasting month for Muslims. It falls in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is one of the five pillars of Islam.
Participants fast during daylight, and generally eat a meal before sunrise and after sunset, called suhoor and iftar.
The end of Ramadan Eid ul Fitr is marked with a large celebration.

Toowoomba: New mosque rises from ashes
Toowoomba’s Mosque was badly burned last year by arsonists. Plans are afoot to rebuild the mosque and make it larger so it may accommodate more worshippers. These plans are welcomed by the community in Toowoomba.
