Greetings of peace and welcome to spring, season of new beginnings! Our event will be held on SundaySeptember 22, 3 – 5 pm, at the UTAS Multifaith Centre, TUU Building Churchill Ave, Sandy Bay.  Please note the change of date and venue from our original advertising.

Kris Schaffer will welcome us to Country, Councillor Mike Dutta from the City of Hobart Council, originally from Fiji, will share with us the effect Climate Change is having on our Pacific Island neighbours to inspire us in our reflections and Tim Devereux will bring the music of the earth into the gathering via his magical didjeridoo.

Tasmania LogoGreetings of peace! For our gathering this month, Religions for Peace will join the Australian Religious Response to Climate Change at Declaration Day, 8 August 12.00 noon till 1.00pm at the Parliament House lawns, Salamanca Place, Hobart.  The event will be the first, peaceful, family-friendly action organised by the Tasmanian Branch of Extinction Rebellion.  Hope to see you there under the ARRCC banner.

Religions for Peace Tasmania will have the fortune of holding our July meeting in the company of Lady Borton, a Quaker who has spent many years working in Viet Nam, and who will be visiting Hobart as a guest of the Quakers Annual Yearly Meeting this coming week at the Farrall Centre, North Hobart on Wednesday, 10 July at 1 PM.

Tasmania LogoGreetings of peace! This is the special time of Eid al Fitr and many of you will have celebrated Iftar Dinners, breaking the fast during the evenings of the holy month of Ramadan. At this time we give the good wishes of Eid Mubarak! to our Muslim friends. During June, Religions for Peace Tasmania Branch will join with Australian Response to Climate Change at its Annual General Meeting to honour the efforts of those who are attempting to live more sustainably and in accordance with the simplicity which is advised by their Faith traditions.

Tasmania LogoGreetings of peace! The world has watched in horror over the last few weeks as, one after another, places of worship have been violated by terrorists during times of worship, two of them targeted on specially holy days.  We have all mourned together and held each other in prayers and in light and supported each other with love and compassion, so that through the tragedies, closeness and understanding may be fostered. For our gathering this month we will join with Tom Teniswood and Byakko Shinko Kai in the Symphony of Peace Prayers.

During April we will combine with two events, one, the Walk for Friendship to be held on the 5 April leaving at 1.45pm from the Hobart Mosque, 166 Warwick St Hobart (more details are below) and the other, join the Palm Sunday Walk for Justice for Refugees, together with fellow Australians in other cities and towns. The gathering will be held on Parliament House lawns from 2.00-4.00pm on Sunday 14 April 2019.

Hobart Vigil for Christchurch Terrorist Attack

Tasmania, November 2018

Hobart will celebrate Diwali (Deepavali) on Friday 9 November from 4:00pm – 9:00pm at Franklin Square. Diwali is a festival of victory of light over darkness; it is observed in Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and the Sikh religion. The word ‘Deepavali’ literally means ‘rows of lamps’. The lamp is not merely the symbol of knowledge of Truth, but also of the one Spirit that shines in all.
