A GROUP of community leaders has vowed to stand strong in support of Muslims in Bundaberg. More than 20 leaders came together at Buss Park yesterday to speak out against ignorance and intolerance. Among the group were religious leaders of different religious denominations as well as leaders of Bundaberg’s Muslim community.
The Hunter Presbytery of the Uniting Church in Australia as well as individual congregations and church members, have written letters in support of plans for a new mosque in Newcastle. The long-held trust and friendship between the region’s Christian and Muslim communities has provided a point of difference to anti-Islamic rhetoric surrounding the proposal.
