Guru Arjan was the first of the two Gurus martyred in the Sikh faith and the fifth of the ten total Sikh Gurus. He compiled the first official edition of the Sikh scripture called the Adi Granth, which later expanded into the Guru Granth Sahib. His martyrdom is commemorated on 16 June, worldwide. Here, we examine the significance of the life and passing of Guru Arjan Dev and the necessity of interfaith dialogue and multifaith relations between religions.
NSW: Indigenous Elder to speak on the VOICE
Ms. Norma Ingram, Wiradjuri woman from Corowa, NSW will join the June meeting of the NSW Branch of Religions for Peace Australia and give one talk on the topic of the Voice to Parliament. Norma Ingram is the first Aboriginal person to graduate from Harvard University attaining a Master’s Degree in Education. The meet will take place at teh Vedanta Hall, Liverpool Road, Croydon, from 10:00 am on Monday June 26.
Davao Statement of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace
From 23 May – 25 May, the Executive Council of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace met in Davao, and engaged in the Mindanao Peace Forum. Delegates from nations in South East Asia and Oceania attended. Australia to ban Nazi symbols but not the salute
The federal government will ban Nazi symbols with a punishment of up to a year in prison but it will not ban the Nazi salute, the attorney general, Mark Dreyfus, has revealed.
The reform follows a storm of controversy in March over what Dreyfus called a failure by the Coalition to condemn people who used a Nazi salute at an anti-trans rights rally on the steps of the Victorian parliament in Melbourne. In response the opposition leader, Peter Dutton, proposed to ban all forms of Nazi glorification, including salutes and symbols.

National Reconciliation Week 2023

One avenue for transformative change lies in early childhood education. By embedding reconciliation in the curriculum, we can shape the next generation’s understanding of our shared history, cultures, and achievements.

People of faith challenge big banks on climate Fail
People of faith were part of “human chain” protests at National Australia Bank (NAB) headquarters in capital cities on Wednesday, 31st May, and some even joined those blockading the entrance doors. Concerned about the climate crisis, Christians, Buddhists and a Muslim sought to challenge the bank after revelations that NAB is Australia’s most regressive of the big four banks, having actually increased its financing for fossil fuels in the last two years.
