New Testament People: Cast and Characters

The NSW Council of Christians and Jews presents an evening with Rabbi Dr Raymond Apple, on “Peter and Paul; Scribes and Pharisees”.

Rabbi Dr Raymond Apple was senior rabbi of the Great Synagogue of Sydney between 1972 and 2005. In this role, he was one of Australia’s highest profile rabbis and the leading spokesman for Judaism in Australia. Interfaith dialogue has been his lifetime interest, including dialogue with Islam. He is patron and former joint president and chairman of the Australian Council of Christians and Jews, former chairman and life member of the NSW Council of Christian and Jews, and founder of the Christian-Jewish Luncheon Club in Sydney. Rabbi Apple is an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to the community. He also holds the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal and the Centenary of Federation Medal.

Rabbi Apple has written extensively on Christian and Jewish Relations, Vatican II, Ecumenism, and Interreligious Dialogue.

His talk on 4 February 2015 will introduce his forthcoming book: “New Testament People: Cast and Characters”.
