End-of-life Essentials

End-of-life Essentials education is based on the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care’s National Consensus Statement: Essential elements for safe and high-quality end-of-life care. The education is free to use, evidence based and has been peer reviewed by doctors, nurses and allied health professionals around Australia.

The education is free to use, evidence based and has been peer reviewed by doctors, nurses and allied health professionals around Australia.

The modules and supporting resources have been developed to help doctors, nurses and allied health professionals develop their skills and confidence in end-of-life care. Although initially targeted at acute care, the education is applicable to a wide range of health settings. All components of the e-learning package draw upon the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care’s National Consensus Statement: Essential elements for safe and high-quality end-of-life care.

  • How to prepare for unexpected and common questions from patients and families
  • The importance of shared decision making in end-of-life care
  • How to extend and improve your practice by using evidence based resources

Recognising the End of Life

What you will learn?

  • What is meant by the term ‘end of life’
  • Who is responsible for recognising patients who are at the end of life
  • Available triggers and tools to assist recognition of end of life
  • The signs of imminent death and the opportunities to provide excellent end-of-life care
