Victoria: UN Observance of Vesak



There will be a Victorian Observance of the United Nations Day of Vesak with a Vesak Procession & Commemorations in Melbourne, 10am – 3.30pm, Saturday 12 May 2018.


 

The Victorian Buddhist community’s 11th Multicultural Celebration of the Buddha’s Birth Enlightenment and Passing. This celebration will comprise of Sangha Dana, Vesak Procession and Commemoration. Come and be a part of the happy, warm hearted, joyful, peaceful Victorian celebration of one of the most important days in our Buddhist year, Commemorating the Buddha’s universal peace message for the world.

Sangha Dana Lunch Offering (to the Buddhist Monastics) St Peters Eastern Hill Anglican Church Hall, 15 Gisborne Street, East Melbourne – you may arrive at 9.30 for 10am offering.

Vesak Procession & Friendship Walk. This will go from Parliament Gardens Reserve, East Melbourne. There will be Buddha Floats, Traditional drummers, dress, flags, lanterns, Victoria’s Buddhist Community. Procession route: Spring Street, Collins Street to Melbourne Town Hall. There is Public parking nearby. Parliament Station opposite gardens. Free vegetarian lunch packs. You may join at 12.15 for 1.00pm walk commencement.

At the Melbourne Town Hall, Car Swanston & Collins Streets, 1.30 – 3.30pm there will be Official Commemoration, Veneration for the Buddha Relics and Chanting ∓ Blessing from the Buddhist Sangha. This event will include Guided Meditation, Interfaith Messages and Sharing of Merits
