Social Good: What kind of World do I want to live in by 2030?

Social Good Summit The Sixth Social Good Summit met on the sidelines of the UN Sustainable Development Summit under the theme ‘#2030NOW’ and asked participants to answer the question “What type of world do I want to live in by the year 2030?” Summit partners are the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Foundation, Mashable and the 92nd Street Y.

Former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, singer Jennifer Lopez and actress Charlize Theron were among those who spoke at the 2015 Summit, which met from 27-28 September 2015, in New York, US. Over 1,000 people and 300 journalists and bloggers attended the Summit.

To raise awareness around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UNDP is holding Social Good Summits in more than 100 countries, including the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran, Afghanistan and Sudan, and will use the platform to help governments and partners around the world launch the SDGs at the local level. For example, to launch the goals in Liberia, epidemiologist and immunologist Mosoka Fallah will take part in a public panel discussion broadcast on the radio, and in Guatemala, a football match between political parties, a panel discussion and a music concert will celebrate the launch of the Goals.

The Social Good Summit examines the impact of technology and new media on social good initiatives around the world, bringing together global leaders and grassroots activists to share creative ideas and solutions regarding the use of new media for social good. It is held annually to coincide with the meeting of the UN General Assembly (UNGA). [UNDP Press Release] [Social Good Summit Website] [IISD RS Coverage of UN Sustainable Development Summit]
